A walk from Proctor Road to the Kubo Cabins in Madera Canyon this morning produced at least three singing Painted Redstarts in the oak woodland. I had brief views of my first Rufous and Magnificent Hummingbirds of the year at the Santa Rita Lodge, and the number of Broad-billed Hummingbirds is increasing. As always, a few turkeys were on hand to provide entertainment, but it’s a funny time of year with many winter birds having left and most of the summer visitors still to arrive, so on the whole it was fairly quiet.
I expect that to change in the next week or two…
