Bird Guiding Terms and Conditions

IMPORTANT! Please read carefully. If you book my services as a bird guide, you agree to the following terms and conditions:

  • The guiding fee you pay is the price quoted on this page at the time you make your booking.
  • Vehicle charges are subject to change at any time due to fuel costs.
  • All prices are in US Dollars.
  • Payments accepted in US Dollars only, by cash, check or money order. I can arrange PayPal and credit card payments in advance for a $5 fee.
  • A 50% deposit is required 30 days before the trip, with the balance payable on the day. Deposits will be returned in full, but only if I can rebook the day/s.
  • Prices are for guiding services only. All other expenses remain your responsibility, such as meals, lodging, etc.
  • Box lunches can be provided for $10 per person. Bottled water will be available at all times.
  • If we use my car (4×4 SUV, 3 is comfortable, 4 passenger max) the rate will be $0.40 per mile from my midtown Tucson home, to cover gas and running costs. Even for a 4×4, some roads are realistically out of bounds, but I will go to most, if not all the well known birding sites in my vehicle given suitable conditions (please bear monsoon season in mind) and the limitations of my vehicle.
  • If you provide the vehicle, there are no additional charges if our meeting point is in Tucson. If you want to meet me outside of Tucson, the vehicle rate above applies per mile of travel from midtown Tucson. Please note that some locations require a high clearance vehicle. I take no responsibility for any damage done to your vehicle by attempting to drive on unsuitable roads or in unsuitable conditions for you vehicle. If you would like me to drive and can name me on your insurance in advance, I will be glad to do so.
  • If we visit fee areas (eg: state and national parks) you are responsible for paying personal and vehicle fees for all members of the group, including your guide. I can advise you of current fees for areas we may visit.
  • All quoted times include my travel time to our meeting point from midtown Tucson. I’ll gladly meet you at dawn in Phoenix or Sierra Vista, but I’ll already be a couple of hours into the ten hours for a full day. In that instance, extra hours will be charged if we bird until dusk, and also for my drive home.
  • Arizona can have many hazards! I’ll be your bird guide, but not your mother! (however if you do want to be well looked after, take a look at our all-inclusive tours). I will take the necessary precautions with my vehicle, if we use it, and do my best to advise and keep you safe. But you must appreciate that, whilst always safe in my experience, Arizona does have smugglers, snakes, flash floods, extreme heat, monsoon storms, remote, rugged countryside and various other potential dangers far from the control of a humble bird guide. You are ultimately responsible for your own wellbeing and are expected to prepare, dress and behave accordingly. I advise that you get travel insurance for a longer visit.
