The weather played a big part. It was cold and for much of the morning it was snowing lightly. We struggled to find many birds all day, despite a concerted effort. Our best birds were a lowland BROWN CREEPER and four EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, which proved to be the only ones on the count. [...]

It’s an early start for the Elfrida CBC, the Christmas Bird Count in the center of the Sulphur Springs Valley. The count circle is divided into four and over the previous four years I have covered each segment of the count. This year I was honored to spend the day with Sheri Williamson and [...] For my second CBC of the season, I was joined by my friend Ed Tobin for my sixth Tucson count. Once more I covered the same area, a portion of very nice foothills homes roughly bordered by Orange Grove to the south, Magee to the north, Campbell to the east and Oracle to the west.
